Fashion Test Drive- Denim Flares

Flared jeans. High risk with major reward. A style of denim that often gets dismissed (maybe because of its presence in early 2000's style?) But when you break down it, flared denim can be some of the most flattering pants for women. So when LA based line EMG denim asked me to style a pair of jeans, I decided to ditch my go-to cut (high waisted, boyfriend or raw hem) and test drive something unexpected.
I gotta say, flared denim instantly make you look taller. (Which is something I am always trying to do. I am 5'7 1/2. Dreaming of being 5'10.) The wide leg fit, lengths the body and and creates a feminine  curve to my more boxy figure. I paired this look with a springtime staple- a 100% silk camisole (this one by SF based brand Frances Austen). I opted for minimal hair up and a messy bun. I wanted this simple and easy look to speak for itself. I did grab my vintage Chloe bag to add a rich tone of color.
I think the most challenging part about flared denim are the shoes. I've noticed the hem of the pants are typically long, so wearing a heel becomes a must. I tend to grab for a classic sandal (like these suede Lucky Brand ones) or a chunky wedge that really adds height. I've seen girls rock their flares with sneakers, but I don't think I could rock that. (It would remind me too much of my elementary school days mimicking my favorite pop stars.) I will definitely try more flared denim in my wardrobe. I think a black pair would be perfect for a day to night look. There is something boho about these jeans that I want to fight against. And I think through accessories, and overall styling you can avoid looking like a total flower child.
